Like everybody else, lawyers in the wake of this storm found themselves sorting through the wreckage of their lives and practices to put things back together again. While there are no quick fixes, some forms of discovery fared better than others. The courts in New Orleans may have lost evidence in 3,000 criminal cases to the storm.

In its quest to index everything, Google says it will make millions of books fully searchable but not fully available for reproduction. Relying on several college libraries to scan from, Google wants to make books available online like web pages while giving publishers the option of opting out any book they wish. Something tells me the printed page is not in danger of extinction.
