Who isn't in favor of high tech courtrooms? Replacing the burden of boxes of paper and carts loaded with files with light-weight wireless laptops is a great idea, right? By next year, all criminal courts at the county courthouse in Hackensack could have a system that allows certain laptop users to connect to the Internet, access networks and conduct online legal research in the courtroom without being tethered to a phone line. However, only prosecutors who paid for it will have access to this system and not public defenders.

Do the advantages of e-Filing for the majority of lawyers equipped for this kind of thing out weight the inconvenience to those who are not? One Texas 9th District Judge has found that mandatory e-Filing has be "extremely helpful."

To fight computer crime, the good guys are masquerading as bad guys pretending to be good guys. In recent months, thousands of New York state employees have received emails testing their ability to spot fraudulent emails. Bottom line: no one will legitimately email you asking for your user names and passwords, account numbers, PIN numbers, etc.
